Biography and Background

Mr. Ben Thair, Kumon Lead Instructor

Mr. Ben Thair, Instructor at Kumon of Longmont.

Hi, my name is Ben Thair.  As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement.  Students work independently but are encouraged to ask for help when they have questions.  In class, I observe students doing their work to make sure that they are doing the work correctly.  If the student is doing fine, I leave them to work independently.  It is when they are having difficulty with the material that I step in to help and adjust the lesson plan accordingly.  I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students understand their work and move ahead, increase self-confidence, and become more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.  It is a great pleasure to see them make progress.

I have had both the experiences of tutoring other students and my younger brother and helping students through the Kumon method.  The difference is that Kumon encourages self-learning and independence.  Through daily practice and learning on their own and figuring out the examples and problem sets, students develop valuable skills in problem solving.  This process will benefit them in life.  On the other hand, students can becoming reliant on a tutor and it would be fine as long as the tutor is there to help them.  However, will tutors always be around to help out.  And is it wise for them to always want help instead of developing self reliance?

Mr. Thair's work background is in the field of aeronautical engineering. Mr. Thair has graduated with a Bachelor's degree in the aeronautical engineering with a minor in Math and Physics from the California Polytechnic Institue at Pomona, CA.  He has worked within the aeronautical industry for 18 years on various interesting projects that include ECS, Environmental Control Systems, and IMU, Inertial Measurement Units.  He has worked as a systems analyst on the ECS of various commercial and military jets.  And he was a systems engineer who worked on IMUs for satellites, missiles and the Space Station.  While having enjoyed a career in the engineering field, he has a great affinity for education and childhood development and feel that his greater contribution to society lay in these areas.  Mr. Thair believes strongly in the Kumon philosophy and method of self-learning, developing independence and self-confidence. There are immense benefits that such means of self-learning, once instilled in a student, would bring to his/her life experience.

"My childhood years were a great experience of learning and reading many books. I hope to pass on this love of learning to your children as they come of age and learn about this wonderful world of ours." - Mr. Thair
